Are you a sexual predator’s ideal victim or his worst nightmare? This definitive guide will teach you how to out-think, out-talk and out-fight predators without knowing any formal martial arts or self-defense moves. Ideal for women and girls 13 and up.
It’s time to take your power back!
Is your life filled with fear because you’re scared of being a victim? Learn how to become the worst nightmare of any attacker with advice from CJ Scarlet, author of ‘The Badass Girl’s Guide: Uncommon Strategies to Outwit Predators’. CJ, I really love the idea of a book that’s all about being the worst nightmare of an attacker. What inspired you to write such a book?
I am a survivor of childhood molestations and rape as a teenager. When I took my power back, I became an advocate for others who had been victimized, taking the helm of a child advocacy center and serving as Director of Victims Issues for the NC Attorney General’s Office. I also obtained an interdisciplinary master’s degree in human violence so I could understand what drive people to hurt others and how I could best help the victims.
I love that you’ve taken the steps to have such an amazing turn around in your life, and shared the result with readers. What’s the most important message that you want those readers to take away from this book?
Women and girls must step up and claim their power to be safe and secure. Everyone possesses the ability to set and maintain good physical, emotional and sexual boundaries, trust their intuition, and take action to protect themselves. We may have been raised to “make nice” by our parents, but now it’s time to unleash your inner badass and take charge of your life!
Yes! Let’s unleash the inner badass! But before we get too revved up, can you tell us what you learnt by getting your thoughts down on paper and forming this book?
I learned that there are SO many things we can do to better protect and defend ourselves, if we give ourselves permission to do so.
I hope you’ve granted permission to yourself to keep working on the badass style of writing. Can we expect to see a sequel?
Yes, I’m currently working on a second Badass Guide, this one entitled “Raising Badass Kids: Talking to Your Child from 2 to 22 about Danger.”
Being badass can take a lot of energy. Do you feel that writing as a badass gives you more energy, or does it get a bit draining?
Writing energizes me and makes me want to write even more!
Energetic writers make myself, and many of the readers want to read more too! So, let’s inject a little of that energy into our readers by sharing a taste of what they can find in this book. What quote do you recommend?
If you’re tired of feeling afraid, of loathing and blaming yourself, of feeling too vulnerable, then take YOUR power back right now. Yes, right this very second! Recognize that you’re a powerful being and claim it! It’s time for you to get indignant! It’s time to be as aggressive or rude as necessary to keep yourself safe and secure. It’s time to stop waiting for someone else to rescue you. Summon your inner badass and rescue yourself!
CJ, thanks so much for sharing the path to rescuing ourselves (while unleashing a little badass, of course). Thank you for sharing your book with us today, and I can’t wait to hear about the next instalment into the world of badass living.
