TICK to the TOCK (BRITISH CONTEMPORARY FICTION)

INSPIRATIONAL NEW ADULT NOVEL ABOUT THE TRUE MEANING OF LIVING

A TEAR JERKER BOOK FROM AN UP & COMING BRITISH CONTEMPORARY FICTION AUTHOR

Discovering you have an inoperable brain tumour is a shock, but with a ticking clock, I must decide whether to fight or tackle my bucket list one-by-one. My name is Dante King, and I’m an average twenty-two-year-old with dreams and a lifetime to complete them. At least, I did until this morning.

Something strange happens when you’re told you have a few months left to live. I want to defeat this but don’t think I can, and I can’t imagine dying whilst so many wasted wishes remain. But this isn’t only about me, as my parents urge me to stay and fight, and my two best friends argue about what’s best for me. And then there’s Danii, the one who got away. I always figured we’d get a second chance, another opportunity to tell her how much I love her.

Looking back on the times I said no instead of yes, battled Danii’s love, and talked about adventure rather than doing it, I know what I must do. It isn’t to fight, but to travel, and embark on a journey of self discovery. I’ve never been happy, but I must finally allow myself to be, because Love & Living Begins Now!

Hi, I’m Matthew, and I’m the author of TICK to the TOCK: An Inspirational New Adult Novel about love, life & coming to terms with a terminal illness. Some may call this a tear jerker book, and although I didn’t set out to write a tear jerker book, I did wish to craft an emotional rollercoaster the average new adult reader can relate to.

Early-twenties life is hard, full of relationships, love, new careers, travel, doubt & confusion. This is why I write inspirational new adult fiction, because it urges me to delve into gritty worlds, grittier characters, and develop journeys everyone can relate to – especially those still finding their true meaning in life.

Hmmm, maybe I did set out to write a tear jerker book…

The above is from Dante’s POV, because he’s just like you and me. I call this Inspirational Fiction because it inspires you, the reader, to delve deep into your mind, and ask, “What would I do with three months left to live?” – “Could I rid myself of regret before it’s too late?” – “How many times have I said no, instead of yes?”

As a male British contemporary fiction author, my outlook on New Adult may differ to most. Romance is necessary, and gritty characters living grittier lives a must, but I wish to craft inspirational new adult that shakes your soul. With TICK to the TOCK, I believe this is the case, and don’t be fooled, just because it’s a tear jerker book with ups and downs doesn’t mean you won’t laugh and smile.

Instead of a book about death, I ask you to see an inspirational new adult novel about life. About finally living. About understanding love and friendship. About accepting life and enjoying the journey.
