Tales of Damn Cheapmart

This is a memoir detailing one woman’s journey through unemployment, temporary homelessness, and underemployment at a minimum wage job. Despite having a Bachelor’s degree in English and a teaching certificate, she could only find work in retail in one small town. Her mode of transportation to an from work was a bicycle that proved quite challenging for this middle aged woman. She notes the culture of poverty at her part time job and struggles to fit in. She speaks of her countless attempts to get out of this situation by searching for other work and she even tried to become a police officer. In the end she makes a strategic decision based upon what she was taught long ago and by what she learned from students she taught.
