Good communication is the key to success. ‘I Get You’ offers a practical approach to unlocking your communication super powers. We use between 16,000 and 45,000 words every day. So communicating is easy. Right? Wrong. We’re constantly competing with the Internet, social media, email, lack of time and the general noise of life. Are our messages being heard and understood? Do we stop and really listen to others? When was the last time you practised and improved your communication skills? How you communicate in presentations, meetings, social occasions, networking or when meeting people for the first time can influence your outcomes dramatically. ‘I Get You’ helps you to transform your business and personal communications so your messages are clear and meaningful. Use its strategies to become more influential, develop stronger relationships and change your destination. Experienced speaker and mentor, Warren Tate, takes you on a journey of continued development with every chapter. He makes complex, scientific-based principals simple to understand, so you can clarify your message. He also reminds us that communication is two-way. Consider the listener as well as your message. Warren shows how face-to-face communication can be learned and mastered.
Are people missing the point when you speak to them? Never fear, Warren Tate has joined me today to share his writing journey and will hopefully pass on a few tips to improve your powers of communication. Warren thanks for taking some time out of your busy day today to talk with me about ‘I Get You’. What was it about communication that inspired you to work on this book to guide people who are looking to improve their communication prowess?
We are overloaded with information everywhere, we rely on emails, social media and mobile phones to communicate – many people have lost the art of effective, face-to-face communication. Communication starts wars and finishes wars, it elects governments and overthrows governments and starts movements to change and influence people and the world. Communication is a superpower.
An often-underestimated superpower. Maybe the next superhero movie should be about a character with the communication superhero power that would be unexpectedly awesome. Is using the communication superpower a large element of your day-to-day life?
Yes, as an auctioneer of real estate, you must be an effective communicator and be able to create a bond or relationship quickly by utilising many communication strategies listed in the book.
Can you tell us a little more about strategies that you listed? Were these strategies primarily from your personal experiences or research?
There are two and a half pages of reference materials listed in the book. Most have been my mentors. All strategies are based and proven in science.
Did you find that you ran into writer’s block during the writing of this book? Perhaps during the research stage?
I don’t get past writers block – I turn my back on it and wait for the right moment when the words just flow.
It’s always great to hear about authors who didn’t get stuck in the quagmire of writer’s block! I hope that you can manage to stay out of it in the future. In this book, what was the most important element of the word flow that you hope the readers take away?
Communication is the key to success in business, relationships and friendships. Communication is complicated and we take it for granted. By mastering our communication we can change our destination.
And for you personally, what was the most satisfying aspect of showing others how to change their destinations via communication?
Researching the science behind communication and simplifying the break down of the research into simple, bite size strategies that anyone can understand and implement.
Getting ideas into those bite sized chunks sounds like great fun! Is that what keeps you coming back to the keyboard?
Yes, I love assisting others and have found that writing blogs and now my first book, people really appreciate the knowledge that is shared to assist them to grow.
From your dedication to the subject of communication and the rewards you’ve found along the way I feel that you’re already working on your next writing project. Can you tell us a little about it?
Presentation skills – There is an art and structure to delivering a compelling and memorable presentation. The book will outline structure and delivery methods.
Presentation skills are a fantastic next step for those looking to master the communication journey. Warren, thanks for sharing some insights into your own trail to talented communication and I hope that you are able to keep inspiring others to improve their communication and change their life’s direction.
