Waking up in a desolate cell, Gaia realizes that she has been kidnapped by a human trafficking organization, doomed to be sold to the highest bidder and unable to remember anything before her capture. An opportune rescue by Raoul, the Prince of Kayamato, saves Gaia from a gruesome future, and she is thrown into a world of luxury and privilege. As she struggles to regain her memory, Gaia learns that her rescue was no accident and finds herself in even more danger, hunted by a powerful drug lord, targeted by a thrill-seeking pirate, and betrayed by those she thought closest to her. Fighting for sanity and survival, she works to unravel the truth behind her capture, each revelation more shocking than the last. The intricate web of deceptions spun around her family will shatter her world, leaving her unsure if she will ever trust again. Through it all, she must survive to save a friend before it’s too late…
Will Gaia be able to work through the deceptions to survive and save her friend? Today I’ve been joined by Jennifer Rayes, the author of the ‘Intricate Deceptions’ to shed a little light on the deceptions surrounding Gaia in her life. Jennifer, where did your desire to write about a character that had been kidnapped by human trafficking come from? Were the experiences that of Gaia’s life drawn from reality?
Yes, almost everything was based on real-life situations. The characters were based on real-life people.
This novel is very character-centric, as you would expect for a novel following human trafficking. What do you keep in your mind while writing to work with such an emotionally charged topic?
I’m with the characters, in their world.
What do you hope is the most important aspect that readers take from this world?
Human trafficking is a deep-rooted issue in society that needs awareness.
Do you feel that you have adequately addressed this issue, or will you be exploring it again in your current writing project?
Yes, I will explore it in the third book in the Intricate series.
Good luck with your progress on the third book. What do you love about writing that has kept pulling you back so that you are now writing your third novel in this series?
I thoroughly enjoy it.
Does your enjoyment also come from working with your characters to outline the progression of the writing process, or do you discover it as you write?
It unfolds as I write.
How does this writing process unfold on a daily basis for you?
I try to write every day and I try to set a word count to hit.
Simply setting a word count and starting to write might sound a little simplistic for some of our other writer’s out there. Do you have any top tips so that they can get the best out of their word counts?
Don’t give up. Keep writing, you will improve.
Jennifer thanks for sharing a taste of Gaia’s life and I hope you continue to improve your own writing with your dedication to the craft.
