Vita Aeterna

With the fate of the world in the balance, one outlier could tip the scales towards salvation or disaster. Alex Barret lives in ‘the Quarters’, a set of broken-down slums surrounding a glittering walled-off city called the First Circle. Like all kids his age, on his sixteenth birthday Alex is scheduled for Appraisal, an unpredictable medical procedure with the potential to extend his lifespan. In a world where everything else costs, for some reason Appraisal is free. But no Appraisal scenario Alex has ever heard of has prepared him for his own experience – he’s abducted, imprisoned, and subjected to brutal medical experiments in a high-tech lab. He escapes and goes on the run, a heartbeat ahead of a ruthless army led by the most powerful man in the world. Piecing together the clues behind his kidnapping, he uncovers a treacherous plot that only he can derail. But to succeed, he must penetrate the First Circle, the forbidden abode of the ruling class.

Mutant Beast Hunter

It began with what was to be the cure to all of life’s ails, a bio-engineered virus that could reprogram the DNA of any living cell. The virus cured cancer and all variety of genetic conditions, created super crops that ended famine, and caused trees to literally grow into buildings. It was the beginning of a new era where anything and everything was possible. But then, the virus got loose. It radically and continually mutated all life on Earth. Animals and plants got stronger and smarter; some developed abilities beyond explanation. The advantages of technology faded. Humans became easy prey and retreated into a handful of walled cities. That was a hundred years ago and not much has improved since. Humanity remains cloistered and surrounded by deadly threats. Only one thing keeps them from complete annihilation, the hunters. Only the hunters dare to venture out and gather resources the cities need to survive. Only the hunters dare to keep the mutant beasts at bay. Follow Lucas, a young aspiring hunter from Manhattan, as he learns the tricks of the trade, faces a myriad of deadly beasts, and discovers that the greatest threat to his home isn’t from outside the walls but from within.

Meet William Dickey

William Dickey is the writer of The Otherist fantasy series. Growing up, William was the weird quiet kid in the corner who spent more time interacting with imaginary characters than actual people. Not much has changed. When he’s not inside a book, William enjoys videogames and the occasional jigsaw puzzle. As you can probably tell, he hates writing about himself, he’s far too boring of a character, so he apologizes to anyone reading this garbage paragraph.

The Survivors

A Dangerous Destiny

Some of the survivors are different, powerful. Their bloodlines have been brought together in this time and place to create safety for the remnants of all societies. Fated to lead and rebuild, these magnetic women and men are now the most valuable commodity in the apocalyptic wastelands.

Nuclear war devastated the world just days before Christmas. All governments went underground, leaving their citizens to fend for themselves. The desperate normals who barely managed to stay alive must now make a choice. Do they join the strange, dangerous survivors in forming a more perfect union or do they kill every last one of them? One choice will save the world. The other will finish burying it under the nuclear ashes.

Book One centers around the first group of chosen people who find each other amid the relics of America. Brought together by a man with many secrets, they struggle to adapt to an ever-changing new world while trying to build the first post-war safe haven for humanity.

This is Safe Haven

“We offer food, shelter, and protection to all survivors. Does anyone copy? …hello? Is anyone alive out there?”

The end of the world has given humanity a harsh, merciless existence, where nature tries hard to push us to the very brink of extinction. Everything is against us, between us. Untold miles of lawless, apocalyptic roads wait for our feet, and the future, cold and dark, offers little comfort. Without change, there can be no peace—only survivors.

Meet Angela White

I now write full time and live on a small ranch with my family and our clowder of barn cats. You haven’t laughed until you’ve seen newborn kittens playing in the weeds. It’s an amazing way to begin the day. Thank you to everyone who gave me a try. I wouldn’t have this life if not for all of you. Self-sufficiency is an indescribable gift, especially when you grow up poor. May someone help each of you the way you’ve helped me.

Rising from the Ash: After the Fall Book 2

The ashes of the fallen world have settled on the broken remnants of humanity. The survivors work to carve out some semblance of a life in what remains.

James awakens to a group of new faces. Their friendly demeanor and collective skills convince him to bring them home to his friends. He soon finds that new people mean new complications.

Charlotte rises from the brink of death and faces a whole new set of challenges. She fights through one obstacle after the next, all while doing the best she can for those who have chosen to follow her–old and new.

These survivors struggle to find a safe haven in the natural world, away from the crumbling civilization where terrible and desperate people run rampant. They learn, however, that nature can be far deadlier than the terrors they have fled. As winter draws near, forces beyond their control pit them against a danger beyond any they have faced.

Old ways disintegrate as this group adapts to what life has become after the Fall and rise together from the ashes of what once was.

The Wasting

cover

With his science podcast ratings in the dumpster, Peter Scott just received a gift from heaven – Earth’s imminent destruction by alien marauders.

4 books (1st 3 in series + bonus ‘Infinity Curve’), 500+ power-packed, thought-provoking pages of our dystopian world in two decades!

“When technology prowess outruns social progress, humanity loses the race.”

It’s Boston 2037, and DNA is just another programming language. Tensions between humans and hybrids are rising. An obelisk from space warns of invasion. Havoc erupts in the streets.

Peter, along with Ears, his researcher, and Molli, his sound engineer and kung fu expert, are podcasting from Cambridge, a world center for AI, nanotech, and human genome editing. To improve ratings, they decide to go edgy, interviewing experts who propose radical defenses to the anticipated alien invasion.

CRISPR-Cas9 gene editing is now fully democratized. A school kid can do it, and black market tech serves any need or desire. This new tech creates widespread medical benefits to humanity, including age engineering and human-machine interfaces for direct brain-to-computer processing.

At the same time, humans are quickly diverging. Transhuman / posthuman hybrids or ‘varints’ are increasing in numbers. Some sport new appendages, sense organs, or animal traits, while others have integrated interfaces to AI clouds or use extensive human robotics.

These rapid changes leave many non-hybrids fearful and concerned – and the threat of an alien attack whips everyone further into a frenzy. Competing human and hybrid voices are jockeying to push their own solutions, and nobody wants to play nice in the new dystopian sandbox.

A volatile cocktail of anger and fear erupts in a divergent world gone mad from an expected alien apocalypse – and as the crew completes each interview, their podcasts seem to be adding to the hysteria. Sure, their notoriety is growing, but somebody wants to stop them from doing the next podcast, even if it means death.

If you enjoy envisioning the social and scientific impact of gene engineering, anti-aging, and artificial intelligence, then you’ll love this apocalyptic serial.

5 Stars***** Imminent Future, or Imminent Extinction? A fascinating leap into the imminent future…when Genetic Engineering and Genetic Modification have advanced astronomically (Goodreads Review/The Wasting).
