Sci-Fi Shorts II

Ten humorous science fiction stories telling of a train journey into a parallel world, a hen party in space, a galactic bailiff tasked with evicting everyone from Earth, a trial in the afterlife, a retired scientist who invents an antidote to Murphy’s Law, and more.

Meet Mark Roman

Mark Roman is a retired research scientist who fritters away his time writing humorous science fiction. He lives in London, is married, and has two adult children. His two most recent books have been collections of SF stories – Sci-Fi Shorts and Sci-Fi Shorts II – both of which are also available as audio books narrated by the splendid Duncan Galloway of the Pasadena Roof Orchestra.

Monstra Inter

One day, humanity is hurled into chaos as zombies appear throughout the world. These new monsters will chase for miles; they’ll stalk and hide in ambush; they don’t eat or drink; their singular goal is to spread the infection to everyone–and everything–in their path. The few people who make it through the initial wave struggle to survive in this horrifying new reality. Will anyone learn to live in this new world? Or will this be the end of humankind?
———————————————————————————–
The story follows several different characters in their fight for survival as these cunning and quick new monsters take over the world. Abigail tries to find her family. Nathaniel seeks shelter. Charlie stands her ground and refuses to leave her farm. Evie and Eric face challenges they’d never dreamed of. Brad and his father head west, as far from civilization as they can get. Paths cross and intertwine.
Who will make it out alive? Who won’t? And who will end up as the monsters in between?

Meet C. Britt

C. Britt lives in the midwestern United States with her husband, cat, and two dogs. She enjoys spending time sewing, photographing nature, playing video games, and (of course) dreaming up fictional worlds to write about. She’s always been an avid reader, but in recent years, she’s grown more and more excited about creating her own stories. She’s written hundreds of short stories over the last few years and shared them on Reddit. (A few of which have received recognition on the Writing Prompts subreddit with their annual “Best of” writing competitions). Nowadays, she’s branching out and releasing her debut novel, Monstra Inter.

Dead Zero

Taking Grandpa to the mall wasn’t supposed to be a life or death (and after death) situation. Thom Sheldon avoids visiting his aging father as much as he possibly can. Even now that Rick started taking a new experimental drug that seems to be helping his Alzheimer’s, it’s still an unpredictable and rarely pleasant errand. If Thom could avoid visiting his old man without getting guilt-tripped by his wife or hounded by his own conscience, he would. But today Thoms’ wife Carly and son Brendan are along for the ride, and there is no getting out of taking Rick to the mall. No one could have guessed that the zombie apocalypse would start near the food court. Except for Rick.

Life: The Sequel

It’s been two years since the Siberian Flu killed nearly everyone on earth. Ellie starts out alone and afraid, living in the freezing upper Midwest. A terrifying incident propels her to move south to warmer weather. She travels the empty land, trying to avoid the lawless gangs, surviving as best she can. Along the way, she collect companions, friends, and a new family. This is Ellie’s story of overcoming, not only a globally decimating pandemic, but her own fears and doubts. She grows and becomes confident and dependable. The members of her group, as well as others they encounter, see her as a leader. Soon, she must see herself the same way and lead her group to safety, ensuring the survival of her people and the trust, family, and community they create.

Meet Jackie Woodman

Jackie Woodman lived most her life in Iowa. She loves the outdoors and outdoor life. She now resides in Florida with her husband and cat. Life: The Sequel is her first novel. Jackie is a lifelong outdoorswoman. She loves to hunt, fish and garden. She has experience in self-reliance, nature, and survival. A lifetime of reading has taught her about wilderness medicine, as sometimes, when on a hunting trip, the hunting party can be far from help. She binge-watches survival shows, and usually will end up yelling at the TV “that’s not how you do it!” Her friends tell her that in the event of the zombie apocalypse, they are on her team because she will survive. Jackie is a born storyteller and trivia enthusiast with a slight coffee addiction. She can often be found entertaining friends and family with an engaging tale. Out of her life’s experiences, Jackie has created a riveting story of one woman’s endurance, survival, and liberation. An adventure that will take you to another place and time, make you laugh, make you cry and make you sorry you have reached the last page.

Dead City

One drug saved the world. Now, the same drug threatens to destroy it. Necrophage is the drug that paused the necrotic outbreak and allowed the infected to live among us. But the “cure” the company gave the world might not have been a cure at all. Is there time to save what’s left of the world … or has the inevitable slide back into chaos already begun?

Angel from the Rust

They say Earth was a place of wonders, where towers pierced the clouds, cities lit up the night, and flying machines streaked across the sky. It was magic. But the magic conjured the End War. Fire fell from the sky, and metal beasts leveled the cities. That was six hundred years ago. Now the ruins of the Ancient world are buried or overgrown. And the technology of the past is feared as forbidden magic. Corvala, a young musician on the run from the law, never intended on getting mixed up with history. But when a murderer falls from the heavens and sets himself up as a god, she’s driven into the wilderness and discovers the secret of her bloodline: a code of immense power embedded in her DNA. The code could save thousands—or plunge her into madness. To defeat the tyrannical false god, Corvala must do something more terrifying than confront the demons of Earth’s history. She must confront her own.

The Dreadful Dawn

A family of four is forced to confront a devastating, brutal reality: they are going to lose someone they love. Not only that, but he will try to take all of them with him. A mother and their eight-year-old twin boy and girl face the depths of despair when their father becomes infected with COVID-X, and they must try to survive until dawn. What ensues is a night of terror, as the monster he becomes, a Shadow Seeker, is consumed by rage and bloodlust, with no hesitation to kill the family that he loved and cherished mere hours before.

Meet Kalen Iselt

Kalen Iselt is an entrepreneur by nature, having personally founded several businesses. Kalen hails from Melbourne, Australia but currently lives in Jakarta, Indonesia. He enjoys both reading and writing thriller and horror stories.

Shadow & Blood

The world has been thrown into chaos. People have lost their families. They’ve lost their homes. They’ve lost everything they hold dear. And worst of all, no one is going to save them. When a new, deadly variant of COVID-19 emerges, COVID-X, the world is unprepared for its devastating consequences. Families are torn apart as those infected descend into a frenzied state of rage, barbarity, and bloodlust. The infected become known as Shadow Seekers, and for now, there is no cure. The Shadow Seekers are brutal, savage creatures of the night, devoid of humanity and slaughtering anyone they come across, even their loved ones. Blood & Shadow follows two families on opposite sides of the globe, as the world descends into chaos and madness. The Wu family live in a dilapidated, cramped building in the heart of the initial outbreak, the city of Wuhan. They must form a coalition with their neighbors to protect themselves from the Shadow Seekers which are appearing all around them. The Campbell family lives in an affluent neighborhood of New Jersey where they experience a new reality of danger and horror. They must confront violent, bloodthirsty Shadow Seekers as they attempt to force their way into their home. As the families fight for their lives, they must also face the grim reality of a world on the brink of collapse. Will they be able to overcome the dangers of the virus and the Shadow Seekers, or will they succumb to the darkness that threatens to engulf them? Each chapter sees the world spiral more and more out of control with increasing levels of disorder, terror, and carnage. In the end few remain as the Shadow Seekers overrun the populations of many major cities, and whoever is left must do whatever they can to survive. Will the world be able to stop the spread of this deadly virus before it’s too late? There is no end in sight, no light at the end of the tunnel, only heartbreak and ruin. Yet, humanity fights on and maintains hope, for now.

Meet Millie Copper

Millie Copper, writer of Cozy Apocalyptic Fiction, was born in Nebraska but never lived there. Her parents fully embraced wanderlust and moved regularly, giving her an advantage of being from nowhere and everywhere.

Since 2009, Millie has authored articles on traditional foods, alternative health, homesteading, and preparedness-many times all within the same piece. Millie has penned five nonfiction, traditional food focused books, sharing how, with a little creativity, anyone can transition to a real foods diet without overwhelming their food budget.

The twelve-installment Havoc in Wyoming Christian Post-Apocalyptic fiction series uses her homesteading, off-the-grid, and preparedness lifestyle as a guide. The adventure continues with the Montana Mayhem series, scheduled for release in the summer of 2021.
