the darkest of times, the darkest of thoughts

gray, empty but i let the words grow and my heart, i let show but with separation came the anxiety, the pain, the journey within confinement. i wasn’t ever my own and my many faces had me so alone, i thought i might drown. it started before i even knew what puberty meant: at twelve, i wrote my first lines. now, at twenty, i want you to read my warning signs.

The Birds Within

Our search for meaning in a life common, takes us to various shores. For some, the experiences on the way give wings to their hopes, dreams and aspirations, opening doors of opportunities. For others, the paths they tread may not be as paved with gold. I have always been of the conviction that whether we succeed to reach our full potential or not, depends a lot on our ability to think deep, reflect and adapt. The gift of reflection is very subtle and can be the lever by which we achieve what we set our hearts to. This work is a compendium of reflections based on my experiences or thoughts shaped by such, and will be of interest to those who love poetry in its various forms. It is requested of the reader to read through some couplets a couple more times than you would normally do, and you will then be able to peel layers which resonate with your own experiences. The beauty of reflection is that it renders meaning and takes you into alleys of imagination, which you may not have traversed earlier. Hope you enjoy the journey as much as I did.

Rhythms of the Eternal Uprising

Author of “The Slums of Nightfall,” William Wright, Jr. has penned another accomplished book of prose. ‘Rhythms of the Eternal Uprising,’ is a deeply reflective collection; the subject matter very relevant and timely. The reader will be carried away by the artful way in which the pieces flow from one to the next; however, it is the content which is compelling and reminiscent of what it is to live in precarious times. The poet speaks of lessons unlearned and revisiting the same subject matter as a society, referencing the darkest of times, when his people were, “swinging from a noose.” Making the analogy of black banners and the call to action re-awakened. “A true peddler of panic, with an arsenal of lies, home crumbles before your eyes,” draws our attention to an apathetic society, with deep seated fears, prepared to do battle and are beating their drums to this rhetoric.Throughout this book are threads of hope, springing eternal. William Wright, Jr. spars within himself to believe in the overall goodness of humanity, trying to maintain a balance between idealism and the reality of the present day. It is a call to all of us to reflect, become our better selves and harken to positive change, finding the eternal hope within us. I am moved by the moments of clarity and beauty in his method of juxtaposition between dark times and confidence that we shall at long last, learn our lesson. This is not a book to be taken lightly, for it is too precious a message to disregard.Brenda-Lee Ranta, author of Myriad of Perceptions

Whether you are a poetry enthusiast or not, if you have ever experienced relationship heartbreak, then the poems in this book can and will inspire you to understand that heartbreak and move on from it…

NIGHTS UNDER PEACH TREES is a collection of poems written from the perspective of someone who has experienced relationship heartbreak and the struggle to move on from it. The author has written the poems as though she is sitting beneath a tree filling a journal with the lessons she has learned about falling in love, having her heart broken, then moving on and regaining her sense of self. In publishing this book, she shares those lessons with you, the reader, with the hope of inspiring you to understand and move on from your own heartbreak.

Among the many lessons the author shares with the reader through the poems in this book, the predominant theme is that your identity in life is made up of much more than merely the sum of your failures. All of us, women and men, deserve the opportunity to forgive ourselves and move on after relationships that did not work out. And the poems in this book are meant to help and inspire you to do so.
