Kingsrise

A sleepy town on the west coast of England. Nothing really happens here. Until now…

Things aren’t looking too great for DI Niamh Khalid. Her brother Lance has been arrested, her superior officer is breathing down her neck, and she is investigating an attempted murder, with no suspects and no clues to the identity of the victim.

Then, Lance and his friends discover another dead body: a young man, dressed as a knight.

Soon, a series of terrifying incidents threaten to derail Niamh’s investigation. Lance is clearly hiding something, and Niamh’s journalist ex-fiancé is back in her life, asking awkward questions.

When criminal barrister Merlin Rhys seeks her out with a stunning revelation, Niamh begins to appreciate just how strange and frightening a mystery she and Lance have become involved in.

Can myth and magic be real? Can they help Niamh solve her case, and save both her brother and her world?

Meet Blair Howard

Me? I’m a retired journalist turned mystery writer. Until early in 2015, I wrote “sweeping historical epics” and thus I am the author of five historical novels, including the highly acclaimed Chickamauga… yeah, yeah it is. It’s a novel of the American Civil War. In July of 2015 I decided the research was more than I wanted, so I decided to try my hand at writing mystery novels, and so we have Harry Starke, a hard-boiled detective, “the original tough guy, wealthy with finely tuned senses and good instincts, as well as a rougher Mike Hammer type of attitude.” Really? Yeah, that’s what they say… the readers. Harry Starke, the first in the series, was released in mid-September 2015. The second book, Two for the Money, was released October 19 the same year. These were quickly followed by Hill House, Checkmate, GONE, Family Matters, Retribution, Calypso and Without Remorse. Calaway Jones, EMOJI and Hoodwinked bringing the total number of books in the Harry Starke series to 12. Number 13 should be available sometime June 2018. There is also a spin-off series featuring Lt. Kate Gazzara. These are pure police procedurals (American, of course).

The Adulterer’s Dilemma: A Novel

The Adulterer's Dilemma: A Novel - ASIN B07YQZ4T9T

It’s lonely being a serial killer.

The must-read psychological thriller for 2020.

What a dilemma:

Should he confess his crimes, seek absolution, hand himself over to the police and serve a long prison sentence … or continue to live with the overwhelming guilt, and stay on the run with his beautiful pregnant lover?

What happens when an adulterer meets a serial killer?

While Jo begs Lee to just suck it up and find a way to cope with his guilty conscience, a real-life serial killer tries to convince him to murder again, just for the sheer fun of it.

Enjoy the continuing adventure of Lee as he sinks deeper into regret and despair, all the while trying not to repeat the mistakes of his past.

Praise for The Adulterer Series:

You guys just have to read this! It has really messed with my mind.

It blew me away! Couldn’t put it down.

Brilliantly written, flows wonderfully and keeps you turning the page. Read it, you won’t be disappointed.

This author has a really twisted mind. Think Stephen King writing a psychological romance thriller.

This is my favourite thriller read of the year so far. It’s unique.

Sam Anthony has created a character as engaging and page-turning as the actual psychological thriller plot.

One of the best books I’ve read in 2019 and I can’t WAIT for the next instalment.

Not my usual read … but the ending … Wow!

A very well written and well thought out novel, with real, flawed, and totally human characters.

I thought I knew where the story was going, but it was much more powerful than I had anticipated. A great read.

Sam Anthony is an AMAZING storyteller! It takes a ton of talent for an author to create a main character like Lee who does such despicable things and makes such terrible choices and make him into someone likeable who you want to root for.

Sexy, witty and entertaining. A must read!!

The story takes some thrilling unexpected twists and ends with the mother of all cliffhangers. I’m highly anticipating the sequel.

Tumbling Down

cover

Kirkus Review: The brutal murder of a waitress leads a Long Island detective to the most complicated case of his career in this sixth installment of a series.
Detective Neil Jericho of the East Hampton Police Department is visiting his daughter, Katie, when he receives a call from his supervisor, Chief Krauss. A waitress was found murdered and Krauss wants Jericho to investigate. The victim is identified as 21-year-old Sally Espinosa Baez and an examination of her body reveals that she is a transsexual. Jericho turns to dispatcher Evangeline “Vangie” Clark for help. Vangie and her wife, Ingrid, attend meetings of the Hamptons LGBTQ Center and she can assist with the nuances of the case. The search for Baez’s next of kin leads Jericho to Phyllis Sonnenschein, an LGBTQ activist and candidate for town supervisor of East Hampton. Sonnenschein opened her home to Baez and she believes the killing is a hate crime. Evidence gathered at the homicide scene points in that direction. Meanwhile, Jericho’s girlfriend, tattoo artist Rainbow, and her business are targeted by a member of a hate group. As both cases intensify, Jericho discovers surprising secrets in Baez’s past that may hold the key to her murder. The latest installment of Marks’ (Amazing Detective, 2017, etc.) series starring Jericho deepens the development of the central characters while featuring a complex murder mystery full of surprising twists and turns. The narrative is anchored by Jericho, a dedicated detective with an unerring sense of justice. His devotion to his job cost him his marriage and he is determined not to make the same mistakes in his relationship with Rainbow. The supporting characters are equally well-developed, particularly Vangie, a 911 dispatcher who aspires to move up within the department. The investigation into the murder of Baez unfolds methodically as Jericho uncovers the tragic circumstances of her past and the mystery surrounding her death…
A finely paced crime thriller that should appeal to new and established fans of the series.

The gruesome murder of a local waitress draws Jericho into the unfamiliar world of the LGBTQ+ community in Sag Harbor. In the midst of a complicated investigation, he also has to deal with the intricacies of East Hampton politics and a potential threat to his girlfriend Rainbow. Will Jericho be able to solve this murder while navigating everything else going on in his life? His fierce search for justice leads him to a conclusion that will leave readers stunned.

Reviews for other Jericho Novels:

“Marks provides his intriguing principal characters with solid backgrounds and he puts the central mystery front and center from the start. The relationship between Jericho and Susannah gives the book a good, romantic spark. The whodunit initially seems straightforward, but it offers surprise twists that add further dimension to the characters. A fast-paced mystery with plenty of action and colorful characters”— Kirkus reviews “THE BATTLE OF JERICHO”

“Marks’s suspenseful second crime novel featuring Det. Sgt. Neil Jericho (after 2014’s Death Hampton) contains more than a few surprises. Readers should be prepared for a shocking ending.” – PUBLISHERS WEEKLY

The Poison of War

cover

Two Mexican drug smugglers are murdered on Native American soil and the only clues left behind are two single arrowheads in this compelling page-turner of tribal secrets and distrust at the border.
When detective Frank Silva of the Tohono O’odham Nation arrived at the scene of the crime he immediately feared his investigation would require him to turn inward–to his own people–in search of the killer.

A complex web of lies, love and intrigue in the heart of the reservation pulls readers into a place and time in limbo straddling the U.S.-Mexican border which is struggling to retain its heritage and independence. Two maverick detectives form an intriguing team trusting each other with not only their lives, but with the fate of the Tohono O’odham Nation in the crime mystery.
The Poison of War, from award-winning author Jennifer Leeper, highlights the Tohono O’odham reservation’s evolving struggle against Mexican cartels and their friction with border agents who hold the line stretching across the middle of the reservation.

The novella’s setting of the American Southwest, particularly on a Native American reservation, and the style and cultural background of the detective protagonist draw resemblances to Tony Hillerman’s works including Dance Hall of the Dead and The Blessing Way.
For fans of Leeper’s work and fortuitous newcomers, The Poison of War is a stunning tale that highlights timely issues of the U.S.-Mexico border, immigration, drug trafficking and the reservation culture of the Tohono O’odham tribe.

Read what everyone is saying about The Poison of War:’I loved the tension; the submission to the law. I loved the sense of values and the spoiled future of these proud indigenous people… Seek out this author and try to read this book for yourself. You will be pleased you made the effort.’ Richard Latham, author and book reviewer

‘This reminded me very much of Cormac McCarthy’s books, a great story with strong characters and a great sense of place. I’ll certainly be looking out for more books by Jennifer Leeper.
Dave Blendell, author and book reviewer

‘It’s a short novel but with a powerhouse of a story… The author has done remarkable research and has a good hold on the theme. I love her writing style. The author has blended two different concepts together. It brought out an awe-inspiring and believable story. The book has a well-developed pool of characters. The poison of war is a great read and fresh take on regular topics.
